Raptor 350 problems
#1
Raptor 350 is very hard to start and when I finally do get it running it will die pretty quickly.
Give it gas and it will die, get off the gas and it will die.
I just replaced the battery, spark plug and changed the oil. It has good spark.
I think it is a carb problem.
At first it would not even start. I had to adjust the throttle plate, I tried to match it up to the other 350 I have the best I could. It got it running but the problems list above is where I'm at.
Any suggestions?
I was going to take the carb apart and clean it, but the screws on it suck and are trying to strap even with brand new tools.
Thanks

Might sound dumb, but are you sure there is enough fuel in the tank? My buddy experienced this 2 days after he bought his raptor 350 and was freaking out about it. It looked like it had enough fuel. But we flipped it to reserve and it fired right up. Figured I'd give that info...

I think it is just carb problems. I going to take it to a friend and see if he can fix it.
I just find it weird that both quads bought on the same day brand new, one is perfect and the other has issues. Given that the broken one is an 04 and mine is an 05.
Thanks for the help. If there are anymore responses I'm all ears.

Did some messing around with it today.
It was very hard to get it out of gear and into neutral.
After that it only started if the choke was on. It stayed on for a while till the idle got high, then I turned the choke off and it died!
It started very easy though, but will not run with the choke off.
Any suggestions on that?
I tried adjusting the throttle plate and keep it running but didn't work either way.
Thanks

something is sticking... or something's clogged....
and if it dies during idle.. it may be something clogging the pilot jet...

Its probably something w/ the carb. Mine had this problem but it was the spark plug. I have a
different bike, though. Just try not to take it to the shop. Youll end up w/ a $2000 bill if you
do that. Try using carb cleaner. Its supposed to clean out your whole carb.

Those screws on the carb do suck don't they!!!!
The best way to get those screws out of the bottom of the carb is to use a GOOD set of needle nose vise grips to break them loose.
You changed your fuel in the tank, but did you drain your carb to? If you have water in your float bowel it can cause symptoms just like you are describing. Loosen the screw on the bottom of the carb. The one right above the tube that comes out of the bottom of the carb and let it flow for a little. You might get lucky and if it is garbage in the carb it might flush out.
If this does not work, I agree with the others, take the carb apart and clean the snot out of it. Paying attention to the pilot jet and main jets.

Yeah I think I will try the needle nose vise grips to get the carb open and clean it really good.
I did drain the carb too when I changed the fuel in the tank. But I think everyone is right and the carb just needs a good cleaning.
I'll take it apart this weekend and see what I can do.
Thanks alot for the help.
