2000 Wolverine 4x4 carb help
#1
I just bought a Woverine with knowledge that the Carb needed to be cleaned out. I have cleaned it out and having some more trouble. The spark plug is gettng fouled. Smoke also come out of the exhaust. The bike is having trouble idling and hesitates on exceleration. It acts like it is getting to much fuel. I am by no means and expert so any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to look for Carb rebuid kit tomorrow, but I don't know if that is what the bike needs. Does anybody have any suggestions? The bike as far as I know is completly stock, except for the wheels.

Check the rubber diaphram in the carb. If this rips or has a small hole it in, it will cause the machine to runn poorly.
I've owned my machine since the spring, so I'm not 100% sure how the carb works.

While it is true a bad diaphram will cause running problems, yours sounds like the float is set too high, allowing too much fuel in the bowl, or the needle and seat is dirty, not sealing and causing flooding, or the needle and seat is shot and needs replacement.I would suggest taking is apart again, making sure the diaphram on top is not ripped, even a small hole will cause problems.Next, check the float level and make sure the needle and seat seals up good, tip the carb upside down, and blow into the fuel supply hose, it should seal up and not allow anything past, Also, make sure the idle mixture is set right, 2 - 2.5 turns out from seated is a good place to start. Good luck, let us know how it turns out, and welcome to the forums, and to the Wolverine club, once you get it running good, you will like it !!!

I feel your pain....
I just went through my wolvy carb (never done a motorcycle before until now.) I have read alot of posts and searched and read posts about carbs for several days now. 95Wolv's post are great.
I am the third owner of my atv and my carb was running on my 02 Wolvy assembled incorrectly and missing a seal until it failed and I fixed it. The information here is great. Just my .02 worth: Start with the air idle adjustment (just foward of the float bowl in the center.) I adjusted it by loosening the band at the intake and loosening (is loosening a word ?) the band towards the airbox and rotating the carb for easy access to the bottom of the carb. Adjust the screw, rotate back, tighten, start it and try it. My big a__ hands could'nt hold a screwdriver and turn it with the motor running. Assuming that you cleaned it well and it is assembled correctly. Like 95Wolvy said start at 2 turns out, my wolvy is stock and my air idle is set at 1 and 3/4 out.
I am by no means an expert. I yeild especially to 95wolvy. Just be systematic in what you start checking out.
Thanks,
Chuck

Guys thanks for all the help.
I believe the float to be a really good suggestion and the needle and seat will be checked/replaceed tonight. Do you have any suggestion on the best way to make the changes to the float. I read the book that the guy gave me (BTW it's the wrong book) and I wasn't completley convinced that was the best way.
Thanks again for the help from all of you,
Steve

You will see a small metal piece on the float that is on top of the valve, remove the float and bend it down with needle nose pliers to lower the fuel level. You can bend it when it's installed but run the risk of breaking the float because its so fragile.

Guys the advise seem to be working. We did the test and the float does seem a little high. I guess a little is a lot in this case. So last night we made some adjustments to the float and while it actually idled this time and ran for at least ten minutes, it eventually fouled the spark plug and stalled out. The fuel is also spitting out where the air filter usually sits. Should I adjust the float more? I gave the the air idle screw 2 turns and played with it a little. Any suggestion from here.
