Newbie 660r
#1
im just about to pick up an 03 raptor 660r which already has a widened rear axle, smaller front sprocket and some sort of intake deal... what are the best mods to do first... im not worried about making more power, im thinking nerf bars and idk what else. dont flame me for being a newbie bc i see it happen all the time on the nissan fourms; new kids ask all the dumb questions that everyone has heard a million times... thanks in advance.... oh yea any problems that i should be aware of?

yea im not about to get a new quad just to beat on it... granted this is the first one i have owned... and i dont even own it, the bank does, haha
i think im gonna just get nerf bars for now... so is the 660r engine the same as in the r6? if so why do they sound totally different? like what exactly makes if change from the put put put to the smooth revs of the r6? is it the cams like in a v8? wait it cant be the same engine bc an r6 has like a 14k red line and the 660r has like 9500... someone put me in my place
lets see if i can not dump it when i try some wheelies this weekend...

an r6 and rappy 660r are so totally different, a r6 engine is a 2.4 L 4 cylinder, 5 valve per head,599cc, redline at 15,500, or 16,200(claimed 17,500 on the new 06 r6) anways, your raptor is a single 5 valve, and ya they aren't even comparable, sorry to flame you, welcome to the forums, you'll have a blast on your quad, but if you quad had an r6 engine in it, you'd have more of a blast, but if your a newbie the 660 will be lots. the put put put of your 660 is cuz its a torquey single, not a screamin 4 cylinder race bike.

What are you looking to get out of your quad? If you dont want more power you can go with suspension (most expensive) or looks (alot of almost free mods).

enlighten me on the almost free looks mods and the best suspension mods. what can be done to the suspension? besides longer swing arm and wider front and rear widths. i know on cars there is lots of room for improvement, but a quad seems to be right there, adj coil overs (atleast on the back) independent front susp. im not really too worried about it, but in a year or two the r6 or r1 engine sounds like a fun idea... or turbo it, i had a turbo nissan 240sx and that was fun... haha i was gonna turbo a sled, but it was 2 stroke and its about pointless to turbo a 2 stroke

Well suspension is probably the best investment you can make. Theres no sense in having all that power if the wheels are just spinning, but im sure you know that. As for free mods you can always cut the fenders, i think just about all quads look better with at least no front fenders. You can also take of the e-brake, and all the useless things like the tail light and all the tail light wiring. Also the front brake wiring. That cleans the quad up quite a bit. As for suspension, you can easily drop 2 grand on the best suspension kit out there. Suspension consists of axle, a-arms, front and rear springs, and front and rear resies. Depending on the kind of riding you do would depend on the suspension you want. Do a search for turbo banshee on youtube or something and you will change your mind about putting a turbo on a 2 stroke. :-) Putting a bike motor in a quad could be alot of fun. Only if you know how to weld though. Stock frames are not made to handle that kind of power and would need to be reinforced. P.S. my buddy has a nissian 240 with a turbo on it. He does drift compititions and shiznit with it.

yea i there were never drift comps by me... ill get another one prob some day... ok its not pointless to turbo a 2 stroke, but since there isnt really a compression stroke persay the boost gets shoved out the exhaust... i read all up on it and it adds power but not as much as on a 4 stroke
ill prob just leave it the way i got it... 5 tooth smaller rear sproket, wide rear axle, and k&n filter
haha a few of my buddies have crotch rockets and they went to the 1/4 mile track today, so i went too... your supposed to have a wheelie bar but they let me go once. its not all that great bc it does stick like a bitch, and i had no idea where the 1.8 mile mark is bc i never paid attention to it in my car, (atv's have to stop there) so had a crappy time, not even worth posting... but i did go out in the back parking lot and do some sweet 'drifting' haha
