Need some help with leakdown test.
I just recently did a leakdown test on my 1996 warrior and it failed pretty bad with about 40% leakage at TDC. I could hear air coming out the carburetor and the exhaust. The weird thing is that my quad (when I'm riding) accelerates pretty good all the way up to top speed. It just seems to break up alot and backfire when I stay at a steady engine speed in the mid to top end range. Low speed is fine. So I have 2 questions: Is this typical characteristics for a leaking valve job? Should there be any leakage at TDC?

Are you sure you where at TDC??????
How long has it been since you've adjusted the valves ?????????
Try doing a valve adjustment, then do another leak down........If you still have air bleeding off thru the intake and exhaust, TIME FOR A REBUILD.....

I would only do a leakdown test after I failed a compression test. Have you done a compression test and what was the reading. Anything around 150psi should be ok. Are there any mods to the quad? Could be a lean misfire. What does the plug look like? Is the maintence up to date? Low compression should only make you have low overall power.
