Default Screwed by Yamaha $69 deal

I somehow managed to get screwed paying with cash. We agreed on 5500 OTD for my shee. I put a 500$ down payment on it. Came back with 5000 and they told me I had a 362 dollar balance. They wouldnt give me my 500 back and wouldnt let me take the quad until i payed them the 362. Ended up paying 5862 instead of the 5500 we agreed on. Needless to say they lost on that deal. Between my quad my bike and my cousins quads, they f'ed themselves out of thousands of dollars.

I will NEVER finiance through a dealership or manufacturer. One of my cousins ended up paying over 7 grand for a 330 outlander a couple years ago. He financed through the deal then got a bank loan to pay it off. He owes more than the quad is worth now.

You should have an agreed upon price before anything gets signed.

I know better than to finance, and usually I don't. I am old enough to know the buyer usually get screwed
bad when financing. I am retired now and had been watching for the 700 yami's to come in. I had a camo one
on order and it was supposed to be a little later coming in. To my surprise, while at the dealer ship, the one
I was waiting on came in that morning, and I could take it home that afternoon, if I wanted to go with the
Yamaha credit. I was planning to pay it off the following month anyway. We had an agreed price of which I
didn't have a problem with. What ticks me of is calling in and getting a pay off figure, writing a check for
that amount and getting the envelope postmarked by the post office, and mailed that day. Finding out they
want another $100 a week later is what I thought was shaddy business... WEll I went home that day with
one of the very first 700's released.

I like the idea of $20 per thousand. That sounds reasonable.

Did the same thing with my new Kawi. Went ahead and got the Kawi credit card, so that was kinda of an edge in dealing. Then, when the first payment was due, called for the payoff. Of course, they gave me a higher cost, but when the next payment came in, it showed I overpaid and they sent me a check. Then closed the account.

Not all dealers jack up the price on a CC deal. I bought mine at Ritchie Motorsports in Athens, TN with my AMEX SkyMiles card for the same price that was on their website.

The issue is that the CC companies charge merchants 2% of the transaction as a processing fee. A lot of dealers just pass that cost on to you. I asked Ritchie about it and they told me that they saw it as the cost of doing business.

I have always looked at the $69 a month deal and something always didn't seem right to me. Glad I never tried it. I would finance with a bank before a company finance "deal" anyday.
