I have done the cam mod and adjusted the valves and it still seems to be lean the head pipe is glowing red about 1/2 to 3/4 the way back on idle any suggestions on polit and main jets the baffle is also out and the machine is also stock.(04 yfz 450)

 

well what size jets are you running now the stockers because if you are I wouldn't run the bike at all til you get some bigger jets and a different needle

 

can i not move the clip in the needle

You could, but it wouldn't solve your problem. The pilot is what you need to be looking at in an idle situation.

well if your pipe is glowing red that is a serious problem running lean that is so I would go out and buy a few different jets for the pilot and main just to see what works better for you and make it so you make your mixture just about right you can move the needle and it will help you out a little but not much at idle yes the pilot jet helps you and at a certain rpm that is when the main jet is used so go buy a few and give them a try to get your bike right I wish I had a yfz but I don't have one so I am not sure what jets to put in because they might jet lean from the factory like Honda does so if someone can chime in and help out that'd be great

 

Don't waste too much time trying to get the glow in the headpipe gone. If it's jetted perfect it will still glow for the first few inches of the pipe. EVERY YFZ does this.

You need the YZF needle with the clip in the 5th position (from top), a 45 pilot jet and at least a 172 main jet. Just did all this on my little brothers 06 and the bike flat rips! Pretty easy to do and the needle is only 10 bucks......

 

Wow that sounds rich to me. I'm running that setup with my 04 with a cam mod but only a 165 main. And I have to run with the airbox lid off (or baffle out) or it runs like complete crap.

 

yea but hes in arizona so the climate is most likely different I am guessing you are closer to sea level in ny not the mountains and country
