The YFZ does it because the headers are thin and the motors run pretty hot. I would imagine the same is true for the Raptor. Especially if you're holding it at a high idle for 30 seconds.

Stock mine glowed the head pipes just like your describing.
Now with the controller and mods it will glow the head pipes a little at idle but as soon as I blip the throttle it quits. I have seen lots of other 700 owners describe the same thing. Same with the YFZ's as adj187 stated.

it doesit clearly in the shop under the flourescent lights , outdoors in the day light but it is a little harder to see, and at any time , its with or without the fuel controller, it did it with the stock pipe, a single pipe and duals. if I hold it at high idle for 30 seconds the pipes glow red. I tried fattening it up on high and mid with the white bros box and no change and on the exhaust gas anallizer it reads almost perfect, just a tad lean but thats also where it made the most hp. Im just afraid that its going to burn down . when we did dyno runs with the thing it didnt matter where we had the fuel set, the pipes lit up like neon lights.we didnt have a fan blowing on the bike though. the cooling fan on the bike never came on so we didnt think the motor was getting hot. it seems to run perfectly and is very responsive and doesnt pop or have any issues other than the pipes thing. when I say high idle , Im talking maybe 3000 rpm and after 30 seconds they glow . doesnt seem right to me . would someone else with a raptor please actually try this for me and see if their bike does it as well?

Well mine is on 02 with the LTE duals and a 720kit and it does the exact same thing. Was just at the dunes yesterday and my brother is like "holy crap man your pipes are glowing" while the bike was sitting idling as we put on all our gear. On mine, as soon as I start to ride/give it some fuel then the glow is gone or very dim. When riding at nihgt every time I come to a stop and just sit idling they will begin to really glow again. I think your safe. My bike has a very conservative tune as far as the A/F ratio so I KNOW it is not lean or running too hot.

Hope that helps - Not a 700 but same pipes(duals) and larger displacement as well . . .

My 06 700 does the same thing. My cousins z400 does it and both my sportsmans 700s do it. I think it is normal for the pipe to glow at idle.

I had a DS 650 that did the same thing and when i asked the mechanic at the dealer he said it is because the header pipes are single walled to cut costs. I'm sure the raptor header pipes are also single walled and with the heat the motor produces they glow cherry red. I have an 03 raptor 660 now but it needs a new one way so I can't check it with mine. Hope this helps ya.
