So you are saying that even though you used a new gasket you left some old gasket material in there and it didn't seal well?

Did the belt and sheaves get oil on there to cause the slippage.?

I should have taken more time but was running late for work and hurried up.(dumba$$ move on my part)

Yhea the belt and outer clutch pieces have gotten oil on them and it is causing the slippage, so I will have to redo the job, This time I will clean both surfaces better and then add some hondabond or some yamabond(ultra-grey permatex silicone is the same stuff just cheaper, and we have plenty at the shop)

I will have to clean everything up with some brake cleaner to get rid of the old oil.

I first noticed the problem at about 11 miles after the clutch kit, and I was not able to pull up a few wheelies( I at first attributed this to not pulling back on the bars at the right time, because it would still take off with plenty of speed).

Later I checked the oil and was about 1/2 qt low then I knew what had happened so I checked the drain on the clutch cover and sure enough when I pulled it out here comes yamalube.

Man that sucks,just when you feel good about doing the work to save a few bucks something has to ruin the spirit,well you got to get it going so you all can come up to st joe,i found some new trails i never been in and they are the best yet.

Yhea but not everyone can afford to(or like me doenst want to pay someone else, or can do it themselves) I did it on my first try with an atv clutch, but I have most of the tools needed at hand because I work on Honda cars for a living.

I have rebuilt couple of atv motors so I figured that I would be able to do it, and I did.
Now its time to troubleshoot my 81 650 special II streetbike.

How far in these steps to get the Primary Sheeve out, do I have to drain the oil ect??? Great directions BTW, I may do this myself in my car port.

no you dont even need to drain the oil out, just pull the clutch housing off, install a bolt in the back clutch housing to loosen up the belt, and remove the nut from the front (primary clutch housing sheeve.) That is where your grease will need to be cleaned out and remove the bushings(you might want to mark which direction they were facing)
