Darn raptor 660r

Default Damn raptor 660r

please help, i own a 2002 raptor 660r and just set it up for racing, and now i am having problems.
it has a rossier full exhaust, open air kit and i jetted it at 155/160 with a pilot jet of 27.5.
this is were i am having problems, It is so hard to start it turns over but woint start. i have tried changing and re-gaping the spark and coil, now my battery is dieing and i dont know what to do... please help

Welcome man. When you start it do you use the choke? Is there alot of black smoke?, I believe it's more of a jetting problem, because you said you just jetted it. Please give us more details.

wow, yea you need to give it more fuel it seems i think you need a jet thats maybe at least 165-175 depends on wuts dun to it exactly,make sure its sparking good,check airfilter setup as odd as it sounds it might help to run open airbox for starting because it will have an easier time drawing in a volume of air specially a tuned rapter.

I agree. Your main jets look small for your mods (Rossier full exhaust and open intake). At the same time however, your pilot jets look big to me. I hope you only have your screws out very little.
........but if it ran good before at those settings and just started this problem then the next thing I would check would be your valves. If your valves are out of adjustment (too tight), it can be a real ***** to start.

Sounds like the guys have you on the right track....oh I might add to check the carbs to make sure they have not became dislodged from the intake boots. Welcome!

i have checked the boots there in there tight. and i am going to try to re-jet to a bigger size and maby drop the pilot jet down to a 25, as for the smoke or noises there is none, it runs perfect once its started, when i get it started!

The reason it runs fine when its started is because the bike runs more lean when its moving. More air flow leans the bike out.

Your main jets should be fine thats what i ran in mine.....with bigger ones it still ran ok but it was slower......still running the stock pilot jets whatever they are......mixture srews are 3 turns out.....starts right up and really rocks

HAHAHAHA i found the cause i had so little gas that once i turned the lever to reserve it started right over, however i am still going to have my valves adj. it should olny take me about an hour thank all of you for your helpful insights to my frustrating problems
