When reports on the Raptor first came out the H.P. numbers were in the 50's. The Raptor is released and somewhere down the line it loses some ponies; mildy tuned. Now Yamaha has this genuine silencer pipe that produces 10-22% more H.P. over stock with just this pipe! Umh....!!! Seems like Yamaha is milking the consumer by giving us the short end of the stick. They could of just given us the full-blown edition of the Raptor, but I guess they saw more money to made on the consumer. Now I know what the the R means in 660R, restricted version!!!!!! And that's the bottom-line.

I have read more than once that the Raptor puts out 38 HP.

Typical japanese company, always trying to suck the all the money out of our hard earned pay checks.
I heard the same thing too, when the raptor first came out about it being in the upper 50's in ponies, then all of a sudden and actual dyno reading reports 36 to 38 horsies.
I think yamaha needs to get thier facts straight before they talk, them making up untested ratings about thier machines is only another ploy to get people all excited so they'll run out and buy one.
I glad i can trust polaris not to make up untested claims about their machines, it's really the only company you can trust for the reason that it's made in american and honesty and Integrity is the back bone of thier business.

It may be 50 in europe, but its also likely a measurement at the crank.

They make it restricted so you can drive an atv in ten years!! If they putt all the potential in the bike straight from the factory their will be lawsuits. Hello.
AND THATS THE TRUTH!!!!

From the ATV magazines; Dirtwheels & ATVAction. Don't get me wrong I think that my Raptor is awesome, but it's not the bigggest, baddest, fastest, quad ever. If you Remember Suzuki's Quadzilla 500, then you'll know who still has that title. Don't forget about Kawasaki's Tecate 4 which was the fastest 2 stroke (250cc). In my opinion those two quads were the benchmark and we can't forget the best of the best!!!!!

If I am not mistaken, the LT500 only made 38-39 horsepower stock at the rear wheels. If you are buying a $6,500 machine, whats a couple hundred extra dollars (if you need more power)? Just a drop in the bucket.

Juvenile,
All these so called HP gains that manufacturers and aftermarket specialists claim are 90% bogus. For instance my DS650 on a Dynojet dyno in my town ran 38 HP stock. After putting on a Woods Stage II kit (dome piston 11.5 to 1 compression, new higher lift longer duration camshafts, bigger carb., K&N filter , Graydone pipe , CDI box ) $2200.00, I gained 7 HP on the same dyno machine. Doesnt sound like alot but it feels twice as powerfull and ran 95 mph on the dyno at 10000 RPM. My point is when they claim a pipe alone gives you 10 HP?? Dont believe it! The guy who dyno'd my bike said a 7 HP gain on a single cylinder engine was huge! So dont believe everything you read because manufacturers know the chances of someone dynoing their bike is slim to none.
