? plowing with kodiak
#1
Hi,
I finally got a chance to plow with my Kodiak 450. It is an 06 with a 48" moose plow. I keep it in my driveway covered with a tarp because I don't have a garage. When I started it up it took about 15 minutes before I could put it in gear and even then it shifted much harder than usual. Is that normal because of the temp? Also some folks said to use Lo gear. I had a heck of a time getting it into Lo. Is there a special way to shift into Lo that I don't know about? I was stopped each time and I thought that was the only thing you really needed to do.
Thanks for the help.

i dont think you need to put it in low gear to plow, (but it depends how much snow you have) i have a plow on my bruin 350 and it is 2 wheel drive with only high gear and i push snow like it is nothing, i dont know if that helps some,

I have not heard of any difficulty in shifting because of low temps. I would think it was because of the high idle. I don't have a garage either (maybe this year) and had no trouble at temps near zero. As far as plowing in low, I usually don't. I did push gravel at my neighbors and I used low gear. Unfortunatly we have had ZERO snow this year here in Southern Indiana. In 2004 when I bought my Kodiak we had 22" on Christmas, but didn't have a plow though, but it sure was fun.

Thanks guys. We usually get around 120-175 inches of snow here in upstate NY but have had less than 20 this year. This last storm was 6-7 inches but pretty heavy snow. I plowed in both Lo and high and could not tell the difference. I did notice I left the choke part way on from while I was warming it up so I guess that is why I had trouble shifting. Hopefully it will get easier each time I get to do it.

I have an 06 450 to and everytime i shift to low it doesnt just go right in i hold it there and just tap the throttle and it pops in probly an ajustment issue but it works so i dont worry about it I plow in high gear also I think polaris is the one you have to be in low

I have never put it in low to plow, always worked fine in Hi.
Agree shifting problem was related to Hi idle because choke was on.

Hey guys,
just wanted to say thanks. We got 6 inches of snow last night and I got to play this morning. Everything went much smoother this time. I did plow in Hi but was able th shift into Lo with no trouble with the choke all the way off.
It is impressive just how tough these 450s are. I'm very happy with how it goes right through all that snow. Now bring on one of the real storms!!! We usually get 2-3 storms with 25-35 inches of snow at once. Then I can really PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!
