How hard is it to jet a 660 raptor????
#1
OK i have an 02 660 Raptor with a moose pipe. when i put the pipe on i didnt jet it because it was running a little rich and still does with pipe on. But i am fixing to do some serious intake mods like a K&N lid and air filter and when i ad those mods im sure its going to run very lean if i dont jet it. But heres the thing i have no clue how to jet my raptor i know it has two carbs so is that going to make it harder??? And do you have to pull the gas tank off??? If any one has jetted a raptor before please tell me how hard it was to do and tell me what all you had to do. or should i just take it somewhere and have it jetted???

Stop! Sell it!
I (and my Wife - yep she's very cool!) jetted her old 2003 Raptor, I can't remember how many times.
Yes, you have to pull the plastic / gas tank off / headlights off / etc.
No, it isn't that difficult.
Yes, it is a huge pain in the ****.
But, the good news. . . if you don't get it right. . . you get to do it all over again!
Take it to someone to jet it. . . not because you can't but, because you will find someone that has a dyno and can tune it just right. You'll gain HP by having it jetted right.
How do you know you are rich right now? Only one way to know - a dyno with an O2 (oxygen) sensor.
I don't know if we ever got it jetted right. Spend the money having someone with a dyno jet it spot on. You'll gain HP!
A guy with the same mods but, not properly jetted will get smoked by you if your jetting is on. Worth the extra money.

I have jetted my 01 raptor without removing the plastic. What I do is remove the air box, disconnect the choke cable and throttle cable up at the handle bars, loosen the carb clamps and pull the carbs out from the rear.I put a small piece of wood accross the frame and set the carbs on them upside down.Good luck.

Wouldn't re-routing all those cables take more time than pulling the dozen and a half bolts, and also risk the cables binding, rubbing, or getting to close to something hot?
If you remove the front plastics you can put the carbs back, bolt the gas tank back in place, test the jetting and then try again if you don't have it right. You don't have to back to square one to test.

You only pull the carbs back enough to flip them so the end of the cables come down to the steering stem and there is nothing to rerout.I have never tried jetting by removing the plastics so I cant even tell you if thats easier.

Yes, the carbs use different jet sizes.
Finding the correct jet size is the easy part. I had to play with the needle positions to get rid of a mid range stumble after jetting my Raptor. Well worth the effort, though.
Also, dynos are nice but looking at the spark plug is much cheaper and gets you plenty close enough for 99% of us.
