i own a 2006 big bear 400 love the bike except i think that it is very hard to shift is there any way to make the shifting easier without tearing anything up

 

My 350 Big Bear was stiff to shift but once I change the oil from Yamalube to a full synthetic motor oil it shifted much much easier.

 

i highly suggest not changing to a synthetic unless it is made for the wet clutch system i.e. 4 cycle wet clutch oil. the big bears 01-06 are all a little stiff in the shifter, but it should loosen up a bit. and this sounds stupid but make sure you fully let off the throttle before shifting. When my friend was riding he said the same thing, but he wasn't releasing the throttle all the way and it was making it much more difficult to shift. good luck with your bike. bought mine in october and already have 760 miles on it [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Hi, I also have a 2006 BIG BEAR and shifting was alittle stiff until I change the oil. I changed to YAMALUBE 4 synthetic that is made for wet clutchs. Later I added a TUSK ATV HAND SHIFTER purchased from ROCKY MOUNTAIN ATV*MC (www.rockymountainatvmc.com. part# HSO-003) The shifter is handy in deep mud & water--keeps hands and shoes cleaner if you get stuck and can't see your shifter! GOOD LUCK

 

p.s. yamalube 20w 40 regular = 4.99qt
yamalube 20w 40 synthetic = 8.99qt at the local dealership here... just a note. btw i gotta check out the hand shifter [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Yamalube 4 is not full synthetic but is a synthetic blend only. Yamalube specs.

This is what I use. Amsoil Full Synthetic and if you read it,, it says it's made for manual or automatic clutches.

And best of all Walmart sells it for less than Bike shops sell the cheaper blend stuff for.
