Default raptor overheating????

i just recently bought a 2002 raptor 660 and i have had it out a couple times. sometimes it runs great and other times its a dog. ive noticed that the motor and pipe get very hot almost instently. so bad that my head pipe is turning white within 5 minutes. i hope its something simple like a the water pump or thermostat. what would be the easiest way to find out if it is one of these two problems???? thanx

I have to replace the fan switch in the radiator about once a year in my 02 raptor. Is your fan coming on?

When it feels hot, shut it down, turn the key on and listen for the fan. If there is no fan, this could be it.

Since this is a used bike I would take a serious look at your air/fuel mixture...

Default raptor overheating????

Problem Fixed!! Changed the coolant and it runs a lot cooler. Easier then i thought! Next problem that im haveing is that im loosing power on top end. spits and sputters on top end of 3rd and 4th. it has a hot cam and rods and pipe. maybe its in the jetting???? i have no idea how long its been since the valves have been adjusted......would that make a difference?? runs like a champ on just messin around in 1st and 2nd. i dont think the pervious owner took very good care of it. cant complain for $800 though. :/
