Finally got a chance to top out reverse on my Raptor. Started off easily and gradually revved that animal to see what its got. My reverse will not top out, because it cuts out(rev.limiter;I'm thinking) on the very top and kicks back in when speed is reduced. I also notice that it back-fires once, when trying to top out in reverse. I'm feeling that unusual thing that something isn't right!!! Has anyone else experienced this effect or is this an isolated issue with my Raptor? Just keeping it real...!!!

I went out in deep snow this weekend and had to use reverse ALOT to get unstuck. Reverse always either stalled or backfired, popped etc. I was not at all impressed.

My Reverse will run wide open and sling mud all the way to the Rev limiter. I spoke to my dealer last week and I commented how crazy fast my reverse was, and he said that the first few bikes didn't have the reverse rev limiter, but all the rest of them do, it is factory limited to 15mph in reverse. (Pretty scary even that fast in reverse)

If your bike doesn't have it, it will after the valve adjustment. (I might have to adjust my valves myself so as to keep my kick butt reverse.)

mine will hit the rev limiter if you get on the gas real easy....but if you mash it, it by-passes the limiter and just shreds everything in it's path.

JUV,

Can't say that mine has and I've shot some pretty big backwards sand roost to convince the newly sugar-coated banshee riders that "it does have reverse dangit".

I suggest you ask your dealer to see the Yamaha service video for the raptor; very instructive ,it has footage of a raptor doing bunch of stuff and the thing about the reverse limiter. And maybe you'll need a rearview mirror on that helmet hein ?
