Default Yamaha Timberwolf 250 Carb settings

I just bought a 1996 Yamaha timberwolf 250 2x4 and I am trying to get the carb set up correctly on this thing, maybe someone can help? What is the stock setting supposed to be for the A/F screw (idle mixture screw) How many turns out from bottom is it supposed to be? Also the screw on the side of the carb, is that the idle screw? 1 more thing, what is the stock float height supposed to be? BTY, I live in Florida, at sea level.

Thank you all in advance

First set your pilot air-fuel mix, (it is vertical into the bottom/ slotted screw )Seat it, then back it 1 1/4 turns out, then adjust the idle (horizontally mounted into the left side of the carb/ phillips screw with a knurl for finger adjustments). Back the pilot out 1/4 turn at a time and re-adjust idle each time. Find your spot and mark the # of turns. Obviously, make sure
air filter and muffler baffles are clean before starting. I run my (96) pilot 1 1/2 out up here in the cold weather. I bet 1 1/4 standard setting may run well in the land of sunshine.

Thank you so much for the settings, do you happen to know what the recommended float height is?

*Jet needle clip position 4th groove from the top, To lean the burn move it up, rich down
*float height 21-22mm from gasket surface with gasket removed
*fuel level 2-4 mm

In case you want to rejet, this is what comes with the Mikuni
*Main jet #85
*Starter jet #70
*Pilot air jet #120
*needle jet o-4 #390
*pilot jet #20

The manual has the carb listed as a 4BD00 which I can't find docs anywhere. I think it is a VM26mmSH which are not all that common. All I did was clean mine and set it to specs, and it runs great. (I am 1/4 turn further out on the pilot air screw)

Good Luck

Thank you, I ended up getting it dialed in, my setting were:

Float Height: 21m
Needle: 4th clip setting
A/F screw: 5 1/4 turns out! <~~That's the only way it would idle real low with out sputtering!

I also bought a manual, and this helped a lot!, as the floats were installed upside down (I bought the quad used), with a float height of 45mm!!!! No wonder the air box was filling with fuel and the cylinder was full of fuel and the damn thing would never run right!

Cool, They are great little bikes, a bit under powered, but run and run and run. I have a rusted out exhaust on an otherwise cherry 96, I hate to pay $190 to the dealer, and may try
an AC 3 or other tractor muffler with a motorcycle baffle put in it. On the other hand I don't want it to look like crap, so I am still debating. I put some mud lite's on it and it runs with our bigger bikes. Good luck and let me know if you find any interesting mods or additions for them.

p.s I just keep the idle high1400-1500. It will not chug low like some other bikes I have had

where would i find a gauge thats shown in the repair manual for checking float height in carb. i found a ruler that measures that and printed it out. compared it to inches from specs and got float as close as possible...maybe 20-23mm which is +1 or -1 of correct specs....i'm still getting fuel coming out of carb and into air box but i was watching it this time so only tablespoon got into box instead of filling it up..... is there something else that might cause it to do what its doing?
