Few Blaster Questions for a Newbie??
Hello,
Just purchased my first ATV which is an 01 Blaster. My son sat on it last night and pulled the gas cap hose out. I am assuming this is just a breather hose and its not supposed to be attached to anything besides the cap itself? Also it looks to be a stock foam air filter but the cover was missing. Was this done for a reason or should this be covered up? The guy I bought it from said he got it that way from the previouse owner. Figured maybe someone thought it might breath better?? I have seen a couple on Ebay but wanted to see if this was a big deal. Last but not least there is a small gas leak underneith the fuel petcock is there a gasket in there that could be shot?? I see there are two screws there but wondering any opinions on that. Sorry to post such minor stupid questions but just trying to jump on board and get the little things figured out. Thanks so much for your time!

Yeah, you're correct, that hose is just a vent line for the gas tank.
The stock airbox lids are pretty restrictive, which is why they are often tossed away. Usually when they are removed the bike has to be rejetted though, or it'll run too lean and tear itself to pieces. If it's been that way for a while it's probably fine though.
I believe that there's an o-ring seal for the petcock. Just wait until the tank is close to empty, drain the rest of the fuel back into your gas can, then back those screws out and take a look. There should either be a gasket or o-ring that can be replaced to stop the leak. It's also possible that the tank warped a little which could also cause it to leak in that spot. In that case, you can probably get a good used tank on ebay for dirt cheap.
