Air Box question
#1
Hello,
Bought an 01 Blaster this year and it has the Toomey B1 kit on it and the previous owner didn't have the air box cover on hoping for some more power benefits I am assuming. Took it out a couple of times to find the air filter would really get blasted pretty good so I ended up buying a used one on Ebay and put it on. My question is am I really going to notice the difference in power? Guess I would be willing to clean my air filter after every ride if that was the case but just didn't have a good feeling about keeping it off. Any insight or oppinions on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

CWAY well i actually did an experiment with that. my buddy has a 500LT and we love to race at the beach. my 660 has a curtis sparks pipe, carbs rejeted, regeared, and after market CDI box and he still took me my a hair. so i took my air box cover of and it did make a little difference. but just a slight difference. so when we raced, our races would end up in a tie, most of the time. but i rode in the mountians and went through a creek little too fast and water rushed over the engine, and into the airbox and killed my engine right there. so if there is a risk of water,, i would have the cover on.

Try checking out this guy on ebay...EHS racing. he makes a kit for the air box lid. You cut out a rectangle drill a couple of holes, and it lets you breath more but gives you pre-filter prtection.Keeps your filter cleaner a little longer. I put on of these on my yfz450 and it works great. all you need is a jigsaw, a drill and about 45min-1hour to install. I think he sells them already done as well good luck. The price is like 75.00 but it looks great keeps your filter cleaner and keeps out the water...

Thanks a lot for the replies everyone. I put the air box cover on last night and she ran like crap. So had to take it off and then she ran like a rapped ape. What gives, must be jetted correctly for an open air box?? Well I really like the idea of the outer wear that is really cool and will have to look into that a little more. Thank so much!
