Default How hard is it?

New to this kind of fun, just got a 02 Blaster (all stock) 2 month's ago.
Locked it up last week. Piston was locked as well as the bottom, broke the bottom free & thought I might have got lucky but after putting the jug (bored .050 over + new top end) together found out the bottom was cluncking!
I'm some what mechanically inclined (top was no problem) but I don't know what's below. Where can I get a break down & should I attempt this on my own?

That will give you small brake downs for parts. I used this to get the part #'s for all the bearings and gaskets needed when you put things back together.

As far as tearing it down. Be sure to get a manual on your wheeler. Tearing down the bottom end and splitting the case is no cake walk but, if your handy with a wrench and you have a manual be patient and you'll probably be able to handle it. I just tore into my '98 blaster last night. Found a few bad bearings that could have caused serious damage if left unchecked. Be sure to check your out as well. Good luck!

Good link JLsparky7. That will get you started however, all of that is a walk in the park. The real fun begins after all that is done and your getting ready to split the case. : )

A little advice dirt slinger. Be sure to go get a rotor puller. Its a tool that is required. I tried everything in the book to get it off and had to waste my weekend then wait until Monday to go to Yamaha shop and buy one.

I consider myself mechanically inclined, and I leave the bottom ends to someone else. There are so many little parts in there and if you get one out of place or leave one out you'll be screwed! I just had my crank replaced and the shop only charged $140 to split the casing and replace the crank. I thought that was a pretty good deal and was cheap insurance that it was going to be put back together right. If you do it yourself, good luck!

Thanks guy's! I got 2 estimates a world apart. One for $350-375 & the other for $600-700!! 140 for that crank sounds like a good deal.

Koopa thanks for that link, are the prices there cheaper than local guys?

Yeah, but I bought the crank myself and took the engine out of the bike and took the topend off. $140 was just labor to tear down the bottom end and put it back together. $350-600 might not be too bad if thats parts & labor.
