newbe with a 06 wolverine ?

Ok here is my story. Bought a used 06 450 wolverine with 650 miles on it. It had
oversized tires (26 inch mudders). Top speed on packed dirt road was about 40 mph. Replaced oversized with stock 23 inch tires. Replaced air filter. Top speed is 43 mph. I weigh about 210. Handles alot better!! I understand most average closer to 50 mph. Any thoughts on this. Also, in process of ordering an owners/service manuel but need to change oil now. Have put about 60 miles since bought. Were is the oil drain? Is there more than one?

oil drain is on the bottom of the engine, cant miss it and there is only one drain.
use the yama lube and it takes, I believe about 2qts-3qts
Does it feel like you are hitting a rev limiter or just running out of power.
you probably have a belt slipping, or grease that is diluted in the primary clutch housing. or possibly it has a clutch kit installed in it? With my clutch kit installed my top speed was about 46
I weigh about the same as you and with the pipe and k&N and dynojet kit added even with the clutch I still get up to about 53 mph

as for oil...thats a can of worms here,Yamalube is a waste of money..Most people use synthetic oil's people say it is better for the wet clutch..I use Mobil 1 synthetic 10w 30..But lots here like the Amsoil synthetic..Up to you really..After 40 miles you should change the filter also..and then change the oil after ever 100 miles or so and the filter every three changes..

Clymer is what my yamaha dealer uses. considering that a wolverine 450 clutch has a wet part, and a dry part it doesnt matter really, the most important thing to do with oil is change it when it looks dark, I changed my oil at 100 miles when I did the clutch kit, at about 250-300 I will change my oil again. and the filter. I use mobil clean 5000 in my cars and trucks, in my bikes and atvs I use Yamalube. If you want to use any synthetic all you have to do is make sure it does not have any friction modifiers because they will cause slipping of a wet clutch.
