raptor 250 speed please reply
Who knows for sure, but the magazine review I read said the Raptor 250 engine did make more power than the Honda 250 EX or the Suzuki Z-250. The Suzuki and Honda 250 sport quads use engines that started in utility quads, whereas the Yamaha 250 engine came from a 250cc super moto bike. Top speed was expected to be about 50 mph, which is more a function of gearing than power anyway.

We test drove a Raptor 250 today. I have already told the local dealer to save the first orange one they get in, so when I went to the Yamaha dealer today to get a part for one of our other Yamaha's he showed me a gray and red Raptor 250 that they just put together last night.
All I have to say is what a great little ATV. Ergonomics are perfect, and it feels really light and nimble. The engine is super quiet and smooth, with no noticeable vibration. Jetting seemed really good for a stock ATV, and it really seemed to run perfectly. Power is smooth, perfect for a younger rider to be able to manage, but not too anemic and boring for an older rider to enjoy cruising around on. I have no idea what top speed is, because it was brand new and I didn't top it out. It doesn't have a speedometer anyway.
I took it for a short ride, then had my son ride it (age 11), being as he is going to be the person that we are getting it for. He rides a Grizzly 125 now, and also has been riding a KTM 65 SX dirt bike for two years. With his dirt bike experience the clutch was a natural for him, and he didn't have one itty bitty problem with it. He started out nice and smooth on the first try, shifted gears like he knew what he was doing, and downshifted again, and held the clutch in when he slowed to a stop. I had given him the lecture about being super careful because it wasn't his ATV, so he only got it up into third gear, but did just fine on his little test drive. He loved it, and that is all he has been talking about all day long.
Yamaha hit the nail on the head with this little 250. I think it is going to be a great quad for younger riders to enjoy for a long time. It should be a several years before he grows out of this one.
