Noob's tale...steering bearing help
#1
For anyone who doesn't know...this site is amazing. I swear some of the best people on earth post here...I'm in awe of the time some people take to help others with atv problems.
My story starts a couple years ago when my wife and I were blessed to find out we'd be having a baby girl. A little cart in front of the horse, we started saving for atv's. At first we thought chinese--then we rode chinese--then we said,"no fricken way!"
So on our super limited budget we pinched and skrimped our way towards two Warriors.
Six months ago, my wife found the perfect bike. Her Warrior is grey with pink-girly shocks and I swear not so much as any wear on the foot-pegs. She bought it from a devout christian man, who got it from his sister, who let it sit for years after her husband past. The nice guy had to go on disability for back issues right after he bought the atv--he too never rode it. Boy my wife's good at shopping
Now my quad: I call him BOB or Beast of Burden. I got impulsive after my wife was having so much fun tearing up our yard on her perfect-*** quad. I bought BOB from an out of town, used car sales man. A day after owning BOB I realized every bearing had to be replaced. Ya, this means like axel bearings demolished, a swingarm bolt that had to be saws-all'd. Not to mention a swingarm that looked like it had bee shot-gunned where the bolt went through. Did I mention the guy was into motocross? Ya, I'm an idiot!
So two weeks ago this Noob was stoked to put his Pivot-Works bearings into the new swing arm and had the shocks/dogbone/rear carrier all ready to go when I noticed too much play in swing arm! Long story short---a popular on-line site sent me a Bashee swingarm, not a Warrior...I was ready to kill.
So now I've got another swing-arm arriving, you know I'm thinking I may someday actually ride my POS and BAM my problem. Noob's got the bike down to a rolling chasis and I CAN'T GET THE stearing bearing RETAINER OFF.
I made the killer 1 1/8" bolt tool sugested by posters. I've soaked the thing in PB Blaster. I've taped it with a punch to loosen gunk up. I have a huge breaker bar and a fat socket on it...still no budge!
Now, had it not been for this board I couldn't have done any of this. Just getting the swingarm off was a nightmare--thank God for all the posts. So guys and occasional gals, will I ever get the steering bearing out? Will I ever get to ride my atv or just have to watch our baby...while cheering my wife on?
Help? Suggestions on my Steering Bearing removal.
