Buying an 04 Raptor
Hello all, I am new to the site and would like to say hi. I have always wanted to try ATVing as a recrational sport but never got around to it. I have a fairly lengthy involvement in various forms of powersports so you shouldn't get a lot of mind numbing questions other than some basic stuff that might seem trivial.
Tonight I am going to look at a 2004 Raptor. With the Following mods done to it, (Full GYTR exhaust, Stage 1 cam, aluminum front bumper, rear grab bar, full skid plate. Aluminum nerf bars. PIAA style headlights, brand new ITP Holeshot rear tires, nice front tires, and a durablue axles) Is there anything I should look for?
What is the compression supposed to be on a stock engine w/ a stage 1 cam?
Is there anything else that is notorious for failing on this machine that I should be looking for in particular?
I would appreciate any advice/ guidance anyone would be willing to offer for a first time quad owner?

i not postive but i think the compression is something like 9.1:1 on a stock piston. also not positive but i dont think the comp changes with just a different cam. i dont think they really have any problems with stuff failing on the 04. the only problem ive herd they have is bad trannys on the 2001 model.

All raptors have a starter clutch problem. The 04-05 is not as bad as the early models.
You can go to this site and it will show you how to change the starter clutch. http://www.raptorstarterclutch.com/installation.htm
You can get a new starter clutch here. Go check it out.
