Checked on the Wolverine FST 500 kit today

Default Checked on the Wolverine FST 500 kit today

Well I checked on the Four Stroke Tech 500 kit today. With the bbk it makes it a 480 so that is an added 59 cc just from the bbk. You have to replace the sleeve, bore the cylinder to accept the new sleeve, bore the new sleeve to the size of the piston and then bore the cases to fit the new overbored sleeve, so why not just go all the way with the whole 500 kit since you already have to split the cases to have them bored out enough to fit the sleeve. So thats what im looking into right now. Im gonna order my wolvy service manual tomorrow and check on the prices of labor to do the machine work on my motor. I will do all the hard stuff myself.

Default Checked on the Wolverine FST 500 kit today

I removed my head & cylinder myself, as well as the bottom end from the frame and took all the pieces to the shop. They had to do all of the above you have to do, as well as machine the windage tray down a little to clear the stroked crank. It cost me about $180 in machine shop labor and the labor to have the cases split and re-assembled with the new crank. I do a lot of my own mechanic work, but I refuse to split cases myself unless it's absolutely necessary!

I just wish that I didnt have to machine down the cases to fit the new sleeve that way I could just go up to the 480 and wait on the stroker crankshaft.

I'll be really interested in what you come up with for this project. It's something I'm thinking about doing in the future also.

Well I checked on the JE pistons bbk to make it a 440 and even though it is listed on the website they dont even have it in production and if I want the piston for it it will cost about $800 because you have to buy 4 pistons to get them started, so If I had 3 or more other people then I could split the cost down to 200 each, but you still dont get rings or anything.

Huh something is not adding up, stock bore and stroke is 84.5x75mm which give you 421cc. According to the Dirt Wheels article they replace the piston with a 89mm unit but that would only bring the engine cc's up to 466cc. A 90.5mm piston would bring the engine cc's up to 482cc. If the 89mm bore is correct then the crank would only need to be stroked to 80.5mm to get the 500cc engine that they are marketing. confusing??? Just got to do something about all that rotating weight called a CVT.

ok kewl, So just the big bore kit makes it 90.5mmx75mm. Any idea on the price of it?

Well the big bore according to the article, it is only an 89mm The price is about 350 I believe, with the cam, valvesprings and bbk it was about 650. But the killer is the price of labor, because you have to split the cases to machine them and machine the cylinder to accept the big bore sleeve then bore the sleeve to the size of the piston, and replace the cam. My dealer said about 500-600 labor to do it when I had the engine disassembled(head off and cylinder off)
