Default 04 Grizzly 660 overheating

I bought an 04 grizzly brand new now has over 900mi on it. All of a sudden it overheating, the yamaha shop tells me it probably a bad sendind unit but i cant afford to have them fix it right now. The fan does work if i bypass it but doesnt seem to be kicking on without. Does anyone have any help, I was really hoping to fix it before next weekend elk hunting. Thanks for anything you guys can give me.

How exactly are you determining that it's overheating if the fan isn't kicking on? The light? It's possible it's corroded. (My `02 660 gets that way. )

Pull the connector and look to see if either the connector or the sensor is covered in crap. Sometimes just quick scrub w/ a wire brush will do the trick. I recently had to clip the wire and place a new connector on it because it had gotten so bad... I then covered it all in dielectric grease.

Make sure you wait til the header pipe is cool before you try sticking your hand in there to check... Should be easily visable from the right side of the quad...

Hope this helps...

The last time i did it it started to spit a little bit of antifreeze from somewhere behind the reservore. If your talking about the connector on the wires coming out of the fan, I tried cleaning them up first even though they didnt look too bad.

No, I'm talking about the thermostat coming out of the top of the motor... It is a single wire female to male, push-on clip terminal.
