Default thermo switch problem please help

my atv was overheating so I check the fan it was good ,then I look at the thermo fan swtich. First I removed the wires and jumped them with a piece of wire and the fan cam on , So Though I had found the problem , Order a new on got it put it in and ran the atv to get it hot and the temp light came on , so I went out and bought the yamaha manual for my atv and found In there a way to test them it says "remove the thermo switch from the radiator ( check ) connect a pocket tester to the switch ( set it at ohms x 10 ) I have a multi meter and it only have ohms x 20 and higher but any way ( check ) immerse the thermo switch in coolant( check ) check the thermo switch for continuity while heating the coolant use a thermomter to record the temp ( check ) test step 1 water temp 32-197.6 +or - 5.4 should be nothing ( check ) test step 2 water temp 208.4 +or- 5.4 should be continuity ( nothing ) test step 3 is a cool down 208.4 -197.6 shoule be continuity ( nothing ) and test step 4 197.6 and down should be nothing" ( check ) sorry for putting the whole test up be it might help someone some day , I am just a little bummed that the new switch is not working nor is the old one I test both of them can any on give any input on this. has anyone ever got a new one that was bad

thank you
Matt
