Electric ATV

this is way off topic, but i read an article on the automobile hybrids and it was pretty interesting! The article said that these automobiles require a certain type of battery and the materials to make these batteries come from over seas.
Whoever wrote the article did some major calculations of the life expectancy of a hybrid automobile and the parts involved, as well as the fuel used in the boats or planes to ship the parts,etc.... and compared it to your gasoline powered car and the numbers were estonishing!
The Hybrid actually contributed to more cost and polution in the long run!

I read something similar in Scientific American, where they compared the actual energy costs of all of the suggested fuels for vehicles... the energy cost to produce, use and dispose of the vehicles and their fuels. Hybrids won over everything else, but JUST barely. If I recall, hydrogen was way off the top, even assuming that storage issues can be resolved.
There ain't no free lunch!

LOL! This is a good one! The fact that "most environmentalists agree" doesn't make it correct! Most environmentalists have agendas that most people aren't even aware of.
While there are less emissions and noise while using batteries as opposed to a combustion engine, the problem is disposing of the very large battery and it's chemicals after the battery is dead. So you don't have pollution in the air from exhaust but you could have pollution in the ground and water if these batteries are not disposed of properly. Also, it takes a lot of extra energy to dispose of these "Super" batteries on electric vehicles.
Here is something to ponder:
It takes less energy to build, run, and destroy a Hummer than it takes to build, run, and destroy a hybrid car. In other words, from dust to dust, hybrids use more energy. They use less when being used but use more energy to build and destroy so it evens out. People FEEL good when they drive a hybrid because they are using less energy as they use it. But they aren't looking at the huge amount of energy it takes to build and destroy that battery.

Funny thing last week. The mythbusters came to my local racetrack I race at to check out the electric ATV myth. It was in all the local papers. I think they raced a 800 Polaris against the electric ATV.
From the way the paper read the "test" was more slanted than the tower of pizza. I think they said it was going to be on TV in a month or two.
