Default Blue Spring Clutch Kit?

Dudes... Went to my friendly Yamaha store today 'cause everyone talkin' about clutch kits got me thinkin'. Anyways... they have an EPI kit in stock and he told me it was more of a kit for larger tires to get more bite on the belt. I can get it for around $280. I think $280 is cheap if it'll pop wheelies over logs and stuff so I guess what I'm askin' is if any of the Wolverine or Kodiak guys put the kit on with the blue spring from EPI and is it worth a couple a hundred bucks eh?!

Well is 280. installed?

If not order it directly from epi because they are only like 180 plus shipping.

I paid 180.00 for my wolvy kit from the dealership.

The blue spring is what I have in mine, plus the 5 small springs and the bushings, and it did make a lot of difference. Now you will lose some top end speed on your kodiak but it will be a good gain in bottom end.

I was hopin' you'd answer ctateusa. I knew you did the kit. They told me at the shop that it would make the bike engage harder. A couple of workers there said they weren't happy with the kit... it made the bike rev too high at top speed... I guess it's all in what you're lookin' for eh?! Oh, yeah I alost forgot... $280 installed. I think you have to split the bottom end if I'm not misteaken? I was under the impression the clutches were inside. I could be wrong though... I haven't done my homework on that part.

Yes it will engage harder for sure, as far as reving too high at a top speed, well I dont think that it really revved higher, you just lost top end speed by a couple of miles per hour. I ended up with I would say 10-15% more bottom end power but the top end I lost 4-5 mph on, which the pipe, filter, and jet kit brought back.

As far as splitting the bottom end, no way It takes about 2 hours to do the kit, oil , oil filter, and a gasket inside the clutch housing for the primary clutch (where the 5 springs are located.)

Take a look at the epi clutch kit wolverine 450 thread for all instructions on how to install the clutch kit, The only difference in mine to yours would be body panel removal.

So I guess $280 installed aint bad if the kit is around $180 and they charge me 2 hrs. @$50 an hour... hooked on math worked for me eh?! I'll probably just say F#*k it and let them do it for the extra $100... I'm not big on top speed like I think I said that before... but if this kit will burp over logs, rocks and stumps and turn the momentum into wheelies, it could cost up to $500 and I'd still consider it. 'Cause that kinda fun is priceless.

yep,it does help out a lot on low end, I dont think that just slamming the gas will jump you over the logns and rocks, but it will make it a lot easier.

Well, put it this way... if I pull up to a small burm on the trail say 8" to 10" tall and I was rollin' kinda slow then gunned it at the right time, would it turn into a wheelie with help from the bump I just went over? If so, would I be able to carry out the wheelie for 10' to 20' or so? 'Cause I ride with a dude who put a cluch kit in his 500 Sportsman and now can keep the front tires up for what seems like forever. I don't know what weights or spring he put in but the bike really came alive. Also... he shreads belts like crazy now and I was wonderin' if this was gonna be a problem for me too eh?!

oh yhea it would be able to carry the wheelie for that long, and probably wouldnt even need a burm that tall. I can take mine on a small hill and pull it up and ride it all the way over the hill.

I havent torn up a belt yet on my wolvy so I dont think that you would have to worry about that.

Order the EPI kit for oversized tires and the correct elevation for where you ride.

Great man... I value your opinion, I'm gonna do it. There's snow here now (Northern Ontario) so I probably won't get the traction I'd need for wheelie poppin' fun but once the ground is harder... watch out!!! I'm pretty excited!!!
