charging problems on big bear
#1
I'm having problems with my battery charging on my 00 big bear 400. The battery drains down after about 30 mins. of ridding.
I have had the battery checked and its good. I have also checked the charging voltage and its at 12.57V which is not good, its suppose to be 14V. I know this could be the stator but I think it may be the rectifier. On the bottom there is a hairline crack in the insulation like it may have been hot.
Does anyone know the correct way to check the rectifier with an Ohm meter? I tried to by placing one end of the meter to one of the three prongs and the other on both the red and black wire (not both at the same time) and it reads resistance on all but one prong. Is this correct and what other possible problems, that wasn't mentioned in the overhaul, could cause this?
