i have a 01 660 raptor with charging problems. it is hard to start when cold but after i ride it it starts ever time. i took the head off and the valves look bad. so i decided to put new rings and valves. and suggestions on the charging stator or rectifier ?? some people say it wont fire if its the stator. thanks

Hi I am going through that same battle now on my 700 polaris. I had a spline break off of my srarter and fell down by the pickup coil. Found that it shorted the stator bot the rectifier was fine. polaris said that the rectifiers only job in the circuit was to charge the battery.

Usually when I've seen that happen replacing the battery fixes the problem. If it's got a good charge after riding for a while then the charging system is fine but after the machine gets cold the battery is probably losing voltage.....that's normal for a battery that is ready for replacement.

i put a new battery in it. it is the charging system its self not charging the battery.i was just wondering if it is the stator or rectifier? some people have told me that it wont fire if its the stator so that makes me think its the rectifier.im just not for sure
