I have to admit that I agree with JustRandy. I want the lightest, least restrictive, least power reducing chain I can get. For me, I found this forum because I am looking for the least resistance I can get. I ice race my bike and the O Ring seems like overkill. I just bought at DID O Ring 520 chain and I can see that it will create a lot of drag. I will keep the chain in case I go to the dunes where you will want a VERY strong chain, but for ice racing, it's all about response and removing resistance. Hopefully someone with some experience in this issue will post.

I don't know about weight, but I have a regular chain on my Warrior and an o-ring chain on my 660. I will say every time I ride the Warrior I have to adjust the chain and this chain only has about 20 rides on it and it is almost stretched to the max. The o-ring chain on the other hand almost never needs adjusting. The o-ring chain on my 660 was so old I had to replace it because the o-rings were dry-rotted and falling out and there was still plenty of adjustment left. I learned an o-ring chain is worth the money. Maybe you could install the lightest 2ply rear tires (Ohtsu 501 20x11x9) and sprockets you can find and just go with the o-ring chain. All the chains I've ever seen are steel and to make steel strong it has to be beefed-up and that equals more weight so you might be SOL on a light chain that is worth anyting.

JustRandy I don't have the answer your looking for; but I would do this. I would go to your favorit motorcycle shop and see what make of chains they have. Get the manufactures names and write them down. Go home and google the manfufactures phone #'s. Call them up one by one and talk to a tech. Tell them you want figures on chain weight. Then you can buy the lightest chain they have. Done deal; go racing and be fast.

Now about you wanting the lightest chain out there. Most people don't understand rotating weight. Sounds like you do. Something like a 7 to 1 ratio if I remember right? It's been my experiance that people like you do your homework, do that homework on your quad, and end up in the winners circle. It's attention to details like this that make the difference between coming in 2nd, 3rd or 4th place or bringing home the trophy.

We were laughed at on some of the mods we did to our race car. One or two mods we did would not have made any difference in lap times. Ten or twelve of these mods did, and brought us home many trophy's and track records.

Keep thinking the way you do; you'll end up in the winners circle if your any good. If you arn't, get a rider to ride and you crewchief for him. Sounds like you'll make a great crewchief.
