the 660 had a lot of transmission problems so if your goint o get a raptor then get the 700 because they worked the kinks and its even more torqy.... i'd suggest the 400ex over the 660 just beacuse there awsome trail bikes and will do pretty much anything you ask it to....hope this helps

Both are great machines. 400EX is bullettproof - just add gas and maybe some oil if you like and ride the heck out of it. Raptor 660's are not quite as reliable, but get a '02 and up and you should be fine. Main drawback of the 660 is they are top heavy and you have to lean a little harder in fast turns to keep all fours on the ground, but they have awesome torque and all the power most normal people would ever need for trail riding. I would say if you like to go fast and race, get the 660, mainly because I'm kind of partial to them and the added power will help in the dunes. If you like a more relaxed, slower paced ride and don't care about getting beat by all the 660's, 700's and 450's then get the 400EX. Not saying the 400 is slow by any means, it's just a little more tame than the 660.

Only 01 660's had a few tranny problems. They were all taken care of after that. The 660's are very reliable, you really cant go wrong with any 4 stroke. They do sit high though but hey that makes it fun. If you can handle that you can handle pretty much any quad. You can modify yfz450 shocks to fit the fronts and lowers it a little and makes handing much better. The 660's have tons of torque and speed and endless upgrades. Like Raptor450 if you want to go really fast and have a nice size and looking machine and keep up with eveyone then get a 660. You can find many used ones at good prices.......

If your limiting yourself only for the Raptor 660 or 400ex your short changing yourself, because there's alot of other bikes out for 2007/2008 that makes both of your picks look really bad. If you were deciding about 6 or 7 years ago, then either would be great trail quads. Bikes today are by far superior than those of the 660 or 400ex era. If you get the Raptor 660 or the 400ex don't be surpised to be passed by on the trails by: Polaris 525 IRS/S, Honda 450R, Kawasaki 450, Suzuki 450, Yamaha 700/450, & my best of the best pick KTM 450 or the Daddy 525 xc!!!!!!

The raptor! it might seem like a lot for a newbie at first but when u get used to it the Raptor is an awesome machine, it is just as comfortable as a 400ex and if its not an 01, and its not modded it is just as reliable. I loved my 660 and u can get one of those for a lot cheaper than a 700.... believe me.
