Default Tracks on ATV

A lot of missinformation here guys. Had Tatou tracks on my 06 Polaris Hawkeye - 300 cc and worked well. Put them on an 08 Sportsman 400HO - work great! check my photobuckt for pics.

If you have anyquestions, I'll try to help.

If you have deep snow, or lots of it, and you have trouble moving through it with tires, then tracks are the answer. Here in Maine a snowmobile can normally
pull ice shacks off the ice without much trouble, but when they can't an atv with tracks, can pull all of them off without a struggle. A snowmobile has one track
and is supported in the front by skiis, which have a drag factor. An atv with tracks has no drag factor, all four tracks are pulling or pushing. I want a pair but
only for winter, and a good set of wheels, and tires for not winter months. You can go places that many snowmobiles can not. They are not for riding with
you buddies though.

I seen them work fine on a 2000 400 Kodiak in deep snow. Sure they rob speed and power but there 4 big heavy tracks so what do you expect.

One thing to consider with tracks & their weight is that they are UNSPRUNG weight, meaning it is supporting the quad and not vice versa. Most tracks weigh approx. 75 lbs per corner. Take off that the weight that the wheels and tires weight, about 20 lbs per corner so that leaves a net weight of 55 lbs/corner or 220 lb weight gain overall.

Comparing tracks to wheels/tires or snowmobiles is way off. They all do different things and do them well in their respective areas. You drive them all different and they all have different power requirements.

I've ridden the 4 season tracks and they work well, but snow is their element. On wheels, in the summer, I ride some really narrow trails and tried one on tracks in the winter. Took me 1/2 and hr. to get turned around. You need about a 20 radius to turn them around from a stop.
