Wolverine question

I've noticed lately that my 96 Wolv has been hard to shift.... REALLY hard. Sometimes it shifts with no problem, but then other times, like whenever I try to go into reverse, I almost have to jump on the shifter to get it to go. Would this be a clutch adjustment maybe? Could it just go out of adjustment by itself?

I have had two wolverines and they both were like that. The dealer said thats the way they are, but a friend had one and it shifted just fine. Don't really know why could be the reverse cable needs to be adjusted.

i usually hold it down and burp the gas, this frees up the transmission, and allows it to go in gear, almost like double clutching a semi, or race car.

The problem isn't just in reverse, or just when I start driving. It happens when I'm already going through the gears too. The other day I was cruising along, and it was too hard to shift into 3rd, and it got caught in between gears, or the clutch got caught engaged or something.... anyway, it broght me to a stand still and I had to fight with it to get it into gear again. I know the problem with reverse can't be the cable too, because once I turn the reverse **** and kick it down once, I release the reverse lever. Then it's just a matter of kicking the shift lever, usually with all my weight, to get it to go into reverse. I know that alot of Yamahas are known for being hard to shift, but I've had my bike for over a year, and have gotten used to the stiff shifting. The shifting now is definatly a mechanical problem. I just don't know what the problem is.

I know with my wolv. I have to adjust the idle of the bike when I first start it in the cold until it really warms up after a little drive. When I set the idle a little faster and try to put it in reverse its fine, but when I try to take it out of reverse I either mess around trying to yank the shifter back up or I adjust the idle and lower it again. I'm not sure how high your idle is, but I would look into it.. Underneath the carb, theres a adjuster that you can turn to increase or decrease your idle.

I sent you a few e-mails in the past and was just wondering if you received them? I'm from Moncton NB..
