I read an article a couple of months back about the possibility of Yamaha putting out a 4 stroke 500 twin banshee. the article stated that the motor was basically two 250 motors slapped together which they already have on a snowmobile.
I went to the yamaha dealer where i bought mine and asked about it. they told me that it's definately NOT gonna happen and gave me 3 reasons...

1. The most obvious, they still make the banshee, just can't sell it in the U.S.(emission laws). so even if they did make a 500 twin, it would have a different name.

2. the 500 snowmobile engine is too wide for a quad.

3. that engine has 85 horsepower...never see anything close to that on a production sport quad.

just curious to see what anyone else heard.

That rumor came from I believe it was Dirt Wheels magazine as an April fools joke.

koopa nailed it...but it would be badass! 85hp is a ton of power, but it is not a whole lot more than the thundercat has. That would be a perfect motor for a sporty rhino, I would trade my RZR in for one in a second!!

Yeah I never understood why some of these mfgs didn't slap their larger engines in their UTVs since size isn't as much a factor. I know BRP has some PWCs with 3 cyl engines putting out over 100hp. My cousin pointed out why they don't put some of their sport bike engines in and that's because of RPMs required to make power but they could drop the gearing way down and have a screamer...
