Default 1999 Grizzly 600 Backfires / rough ride

I had an intersting/weird thing with my Grizzly and a rough idle. I played with the mixture, and could not seem to get it and the idle in harmony,
I finally backed the mixture screw all the way out and the O ring and washer were off the screw gunked in the opening. The O ring was sideways in the opening.
I picked them out and cleaned them up,put them back on the screw and set it 2.5 out and it was like magic.

good luck

Well I tried adjusting my screw (18 shown above) and I barley turned it and the edges of the slot in the head of the screw snaped off. The screw is still there but how to I get it out?

Not sure I really understand what snaped off. Mine is a very small slotted screw. The screw should not be very tight. Wouldn't think it would have sheared off completly so if you use a very small screwdriver and press down (well up if the carb is installed) on the screw before turning then it should turn. I found that you do need to press on it a little to overcome the spring force. Also, make sure you in the right hole and turning the right way. There are two holes on the underside of the carb on my bike and idle screw was the one on the right side of the bike.

Are you sure? #18 is never that tight. Its never at the bottom, and its only the spring's tension which keeps it from rattling out. Were you going in or out, when it snapped? If the carb is still on the motor, its easy to get turned around as far as ccw and cw go.
Is the carb removed totally from the bike, and sitting on the bench?
If you cant get a screwdriver blade to bite, youre gonna have a challenge. I suppose itll need to be drilled and use an easyout.

ya I am almost positive that it was 18. The carb was in the bike but I twisted it sideways for easier access. I barley tried turning it and it just popped and did not move at all. It looks to be about 1/2 way in the I hate to have to pull the entire thing out but I guess that is what needs to happen.

It is a very small hole/screw will an easy out work do you think?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Like I say, that screw should NOT be tight, and something is very wrong if it is. Thats what makes me think youre on the wrong screw( the screw has a slot, and not a philips..right?) . Try using a better screwdriver, and getting a better bite on the slot, of the screw head, I cant believe it would take anymore effort than that.It should only be finger tight( actually its just spring tension holding it still). Before you start, give the threads a good soaking with a penetrant type of solvent to loosen any corosion that may be in there, deep creep or Kroil or liquid wrench should help.
Because the head is in the counterbore, its not gonna be easy to grab with a vice grip, or turn with the tap of a chisel and hammer.
If the head of the mixture screw gets too buggered up, youre gonna need a new one, the dealership should be able to help you out on that.

ok I have done it now. I took the carb right off and got a really good screw driver and it is so rounded off that did not work. So I made a small hole in it and tried a easy out, well the smallest one just stripped the hole. So I went one size up and instead of turning it expanded and put a small crack on the case of the card about the pilot but does not appear to be leaking anything, maybe some jb weld will fix this.

Does any one have an actual picture of the bottom of this carb or explain how to ensure I am on the correct screw? I am positive it is the correct one but as was said in the last post if it is that tight I might be on the wrong one.

Thanks for any help,.

PS anyone know where I can buy a used carb for a 99 griz 600?

Thanks
