I have an 88 moto 4. How can I tell if it is a 200 or 225? Replacing flywheel and need to know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

It could be either. Do you have any pics?

I have had both, and could ID it in a snap with a pic.

 

I'll have to get a pic for ya. It's a red 2WD with black seat and gold wheels if that helps. I'm guessing that it's not a 350.

 

it sounds like a 225 you can look for the vin on the left bottom side of the frame between the wheel and shifter or on the right side on top of the motor and call the yamaha shop and they can tell you for sure. or look the parts up online because some of them will work for either one

I had a Moto 4 200, it was red with black seat and same rims, I looked at buying a friend's 225, it was blue, and it also had a HI/LO lever for the tranny,turning the 5 speed into a 10 speed. I think the 2 speed sub tranny was the major difference between the 200 and the others

 

This one has the hi/lo shifter. I went ahead and ordered the flywheel/starter clutch for the 225, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I would rather not call my local yamaha shop. They're masters in the art of being total jerks.

I do need a pull start assembly for it so far...

And I am going to have to pull the sub-tranny thing...

I just gambled on it and bought parts for a 225. The starter clutch/flywheel and gasket fit perfectly and I did the job for less than $80 thanks to ebay!

 

how close is your vin to mine?

I am still trying to figure out it i have the 200 or the 225...
