Default '05 Raptor 660 not getting enough air

I recently purchased an '05 Raptor 660 and the first time I took it out I noticed that it was cutting out in the top end of 2nd and 3rd gear. After monkeying around with it a little I took of the airbox lid and ran the rest of the day without any problems. I love this bike and am very happy with the performance, but I don't want to be running around without the airbox lid as I live in Washington State and it is not exactly dry all the time. The bike is all stock. Is there anything I could do, reletively inexpensively, to prevent the bike from cutting out like it was keeping the lid on or another lid I could get to allow more airflow?
