You don't want to have the inlets facing forward since this can cause water to enter the snorkel when you enter water quickly.
CraZySteve is right. You want to have a 180° curve to have the inlet facing down with the inlet point above the highest water you ever intend to venture into.
See CraZySteve's and as well as my photo's of ours.

Afterall - my snorkle design came from Headpressure's - so he gets the credit for the simplistic design

Cheers! And thanks!
Did I mention I can get so **** at times that for the $40 it costed me (the emblem almost costed just as much), I bought another hood cover so I would have one without the hole I made in it for the snorkel. Just in case I changed my mind (not going to happen), or wanted to sell it, which is also not going to happen.
It would be more likely that I give the 450 to my wife and treat myself to a 700 FI.
Yamaha's are great ATV's
P.S. CraZysteve, did you ever consider mounting aux. lights on your 450? I mounted a pair of low cost 55W projectors on the front bush guard, and I don't know how I rode at night or dusk without them!

Head,
You might want to wait... rumor mill is that Yamaha is introducing a 550 EFI Grizzly for 2009.... hopefully with EPS too!!
I have the "walmart special" foglights on my list of mods for my quad - right now I want to finish all of the under armor protection. I made my "cardboard" rear-arm pattern last night.. and the Mech Eng at work is drawing them up in Solidworks as I type this... So hopefully next week I can stop over to the metal supply house and pick up some 3/16" 5052 AL for those....

I put a pic of my pipes on my bio, it's just like steve and heads though 180. I found a 180 in a single piece at home depot I see allot of guys using two 90's i don't really like how that looks but that's me. I grinded all the little pvc tabs and raised lettering and then painted them with some flat black.
