Default clutch problems, 03 warrior

ok, 1st and 2nd gear their is no slippage of the clutch, but in 3-4-5-6 its slipping like crazy, i punch it and the engine wines and it bearely moves, my oil has a small burnt smell in it, my clutches pates or watever you call those are probably done aye? I am tearing it up as i speak, is it possible that if i tighten the screws that have springs attached to them a couple turns each i could get a thew rides out of it without changing the plates, or it won't do anything at all? Anyways please leave me any comments, i have never changed clutch plates (or whatever their called) before is it a big job? DO you need special tools, is their a special process?

i wouldnt tighten those bolts up any, they will break easily, once they compress thatr srping down then there bout done bein tightened, its not that big of a job, what you could do is just flip all the clutches over and that MIGHT last you a lil while if you gotta wait before buying new clutches and plates, but youd better change them while you can there not that much, just buy OEM clutches and plates, just unbolt the pressure plate off the top of clutch assembly i believe there 5 lil bolts and pull the clutches and plates out all at once, or at least keep them in order, so you could tell how to put new ones back in, you dont need any specialy tools.

well thing is i was planning on getting these http://cgi.ebay.ca/Yamaha-Warr...WQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

or if i could a waited a lil whil i would a gotten brnett dirt diggers but they cost quiet a bit, you say i can just flip each clutch and i should be able to squize a thew rides out of it? i don't want to spend more than i need, the rest of the bikes in ok shape i just pu new bearing on the rear and i don't want to spend much more on it for the rest of the summer, i'm not very hard on my toys lol. but slipping clutches are pretty anoying

ok, i checked the nuts with the springs and i could almost turn all of them with just my hands, the book says they are suppost to be torqued at 7.2 ft lbs, my torque wrench is too big for small numbers like that but iknow 7/2ft lbs is more than that, i tightend them all abouth a 1/2-1/3 of a turn and will try it out like that.

yep...the clutches slip badly therefore it just burns the oil on the clutches and thats where the smell comes from, when you change them check your clutch boss and pressure plate to make sure the clutches didnt wear a groove in them from slipping.

i don't know if this is true or not, but i was told by a friend that the new clutches i am aquiring have to be dipped in oil for about a week before they can be installed, or else ill burn them up. Is this true or not?

no...lol there wet clutches there submerged in oil as soon as there installed, motorcycles are wet clutches, all though you should make sure you oil them really good when you put them in, and be easy for a little while riding, dont dump or slip the clutches to much for a little while so they can break in.

i saw a video on changing clutches on Youtube and it was recommended that you soak the new clutch assembly in fresh oil before installing them. i have a 99 Yam Big Bear that is doing the same thing and im ordering new clutches for it tomorrow. found a new complete set on motosport.com for 45 bucks, and it is made by ETI. it has everything included for the job. i just need to visit the dealer and get the Yamaha oil and filter as mine doesnt have the small clutch cover. i have to take the side case off and that requires an oil change too. of course, its a good idea to change the oil if you have smoked your clutches as the oil will have particles in it.
