How big of a deal is the 01 raptor 660 trannys?

i was kinda looking in getting a raptor 660 sometime in the future and see a lot of good deals on the 01's which i know had tranny probs, but how big of a deal is it? is there gears i could just buy and swap them out? i live right near a yamaha dealer which i used to work at, but is it that pricey of a job or is it just a simple fix on a faulty part in the tranny that wouldnt be that expensive? thanks

Three friends of mine all bought brand new Rator 660's in '01 two of them had catostrophic tranny failures within the first year of ownership. Jakes lasted till the end of 04 before he lost second gear. So for us that was 100% failure rate. Tony and Bill upgraded there trannys with 02 stuff and had no more problems. Jake put Alba gears in his and they are awesome (His gear ratios are now more like that of a yfz450) and are bullet proof! So as long as you stay away from 01's you should not have a problem.

so it seems like a pricey fix, i was just wondering if i could find out what is faulty in the engine and replace those faulty parts so it wouldnt go boom...lol , ive seen a few 660's for like under 3000 bucks thats why i was wondering how big a deal it was...

I think the whole thing is faulty and the sevice department told my buddy Bill that the parts from the 01 tranny are not compatible with 02 and up trannys. Look around see you might be able to pick up a raptor with a jacked up tranny real cheap. Spend 700 for the Alba tranny and be ripping it up for less than $2000. I have seen it done.
