I went with the Toomey clutch kit and I believe they are factory plates with ridiculously stiff springs. I went back to stock springs. Don't waste your $$

I am now having trouble with getting neutral. It does seem to be engaging with the clutch pulled in. I have adjusted it by the locknut on the clutch plate cover 3 times, aligning it with the mark on the case. Any suggestions.

I never tried the toomey clutch....but I did try a barnett dirt digger. It was notchy as you describe. After a while it should loosen up.
My banshee is a 96. I changed the clutch after the first year and a half or so...I did not like the barnett so I went back to stock. I have not had a problem since then.

Stock clutch works for stock bike, the reason that the toomey springs are way stiffer is for better grab in the clutch... I dont know about the toomey clutch but with the barnett you can install only 3 springs for a softer clutch.. Still stronger than stock. Try installing a easypull type lever, they help lots.. Also the "grabby"effect is due to a worn clutch basket (it gets groves in it from the clutch plates and they get stuck in them when there is torque on the clutch) . You can fix this yourself with some elbow grease by taking the clutch apart and filing (with a flat file) the edges of the housing back to its original shape. Its hard to explain and you gotta be careful, I would suggest taking it to your dealer or someone who knows what they are doing.

i installed barnett clutches in my shee last fall and it was alote harder to find -n- it does get alote better with alittle wear but i was told the reason its harder to shift is due to the fact that you leave the rubber o-rings out on after market clutchs and this causes the plates to stick .hope this helps.
