Default 2000 bear 250

Need help!!!! We have a bear 250 (year 2000) While riding moter goes dead. Tried to crank it, and will turn over but will not crank. It however did crank a couple of times for just about 5 seconds and cut right back off. Have put new coil and new battery. Check spark there is no spark, also put new spark plug. Compression seems to be ok. Wiring looks good, and check connections, also look good. Any suggestion?????????

see if it will jump start off the solenoid or skid start. because if the stator is bad it wont have enough power to tell the ignition coil to create a spark, but when the starter is turned faster it will give it enough power to do so.

did you check to see if there were any fuses blown? my 99 big bear has a couple of inline fuses on the main power wire right by the positive battery connection. it is possible that you could have blown a fuse when changing the battery. just double check your wiring, m ake sure it is all snug and secure and then check the fuses. good luck.

Only have one fuse by the battery and is good. Checked all wires a least 10 to 15 times. Anyone know how to check the CDI box?

you need to click that link and order the appropriate shop repair manual for your ATV. it has step by step instructions on how to troubleshoot everything. i have one for my big bear and it is wonderful. it even tells you what size tools for the job in question. they are 20 bucks plus shipping. it makes it about 25 dollars for the book.

skid start is when you get the vehicle rolling and pop it into gear to force it too start...

Thanks for the information on the skid start. We will try this to see if it will crank. No manual for this year on the web site posted. We have one manual but it's the basic stuff.

if your engine is turning over but you have no spark i would recommend getting your stator tested , usually when 250 yamahas dont have spark its the stator , if its bad you can get it rewound by a rewinds person . it would be worth plugging your cdi into another 250 same as yours first just to be sure its not your cdi thats wrong .
