Bearclaws or Sur Traks???
#2
If you look at the tread on both tires you will see that they are nearly identical except the SurTrak has a little larger 'middle scoopers'. I have the SurTraks on my Scrambler and traction is much improved over the stock Titans it had on it. Since they are so similar you really can't go wrong with either tire. Which can you get cheaper?

The bear claws have higher treads, so I think they would be better in the sloppy stuff. And they seem to be a harder compound, which in turn will give you a longer life on the hardpack. I would go with the bear claws, or mix them between the front and rear, like bear claws on back surtracs on the front.

Hello...I also own a Wolverine and I have 25 inch Sur-Tracs on mine ....I find them to be a great all around tire...I've had them on mine for four years now and haven't had a single flat..What I like the most about them is there dual directional and they are a hard tire compound...2000 hard miles on mainly hard surfaces and there still like new...I hope that helps you out...

I had a hard time deciding wether to get Shure-Traks or Bear Claws for my Warrior, and I just ordered a set of Bear claws yesterday, to replace my worn out Blackwatters, and here is why. The Sur-Traks looked like they had fewer lugs/bars, that were spaced farther apart, the Bear Claws looked a little closer, and more of them. I figured that would give me better traction climbing a hill, or on hard pack. The Sur-Trak is also a little shorter, a 22" dia. tire is supposedly 21.3" or 21.6" tall. Check it out. http://www.maxxistires.com/atv/surtrak.html
I have no idea how the Bear Claws run hight wise.
The only time that I get stuck is when the swing arm skid plate gets hung up on something and the tires loose contact with the ground, so the Sur-Trak beeing shorter is not good. The Sure-Trak can be fliped around and is good for sand, and snow. Where I live there is no sand, the 10 hour drive ot get to some small dunes, makes it not worth it. As far as winter rideing, I never had a problem with the Blackwatters that the Bear claws are going to replace.
Hope this helps

Hello Wolvie....I can't put a number to the amount of powerloss there was by putting on the Sur-Tracs...But I can tell you that it wasn't as bad as my buddies Wolverine with the six ply Blackwaters...One thing I can tell you is there is a very noticable difference in the wieght of a Blackwater versus a Sur-Trac...You do gain MPH at top speed but for that you give away alittle of the bottom end grunt...Before puting on a larger tire I would suggest getting an after market pipe and jet kit first....what you will lose in the bottom end with the larger tires will be back and alittle more by adding the pipe and jet ket...What I did also was to drill out the clutch weights, that lightened them up abit and allows the clutch to engage sooner at a lower RPM...I hope this helps...

I have the 25" Bear claws and they work real good in mud and snow. I now that the Bear Claws are a 4ply tire buy I'm not sure about the sur tracs. I heard that there only 2plys but don't quote me on that one. When it comes time to change them, I'll probably go with the same tire cause I like the way they perform and look on the bike.
