Default speaking of sheaves

hey i have been reading up on these sheaves and they sound like miracle workers. however my dad used to have a polaris with some kind of clutch kit in it and it made it suck to drive at low speed. it essentially had to be screaming to get it to move and then it came in like a freight train. i have a wolvy 450 and was curious how the hauck sheave affects slow speed riding. me, my girlfriend, and my son like to ride around on some local trails just putting like 5 mph and i wanted to make sure that the motor doesnt have to be screaming to do it. when i am by my self i ride a little harder and will do anything for bottom end but i dont want to sacrifice drivability to get it. thanks everyone.

I just installed mine Today really easy install. As soon as I ride it I will let you know. Not sure when that is going to be I live in North Carolina and there is a gas shortage had to siphun gas out of my quad to get to work. It will probably be a couple of weeks then I will respond.

It gives it a bit more on the bottom end without feeling "tight" like a traditional clutch kit. My cousin rode mine and said I grossly underated how much better my few mods made the Wolverine. It smoked his super clean 250sx by quite a bit and with me on a 700 praire and my wife on the Wolverine I couldn't pull her by more than a quad until 42mph in a drag from stock (I'm 120lbs heavier though) but before it wasn't even close.

I also forgot to mention how much better the performance was in the mud...night and day! Same trails as last year a 2wd Rancher could go more places than the Wovly...this year the rancher and 300 praire 4x4 were stuck several times but not once did the Wolvy get stuck. I attribute that to the extra wheel spin when they start to turn over.

i have had the mod done since i originally posted the topic. the more i ride it the more i notice a difference. it deffinately doesnt rev any higher to take off but i do notice it just feels like it is in a lower gear all the time. at times i think it is the belt slipping but if i nail it it takes right off. and i can finally get the front end up while sitting on the seat. i would have to say if you do nothing else to your wolvie get this done. i got a gytr pipe at the same time but pound for pound the clutch is where it is at. the more i read the more i think the epi cluth kid would do what i was afraid this was gonna do as far as making the motor rev higher to take off and basically make the quad less friendly. i cant imagine a better all around four wheeler than this one. it isnt the fastest but it isnt the slowest either. i think yamaha made a four wheeler do exactly what they wanted it to do.

i hear what you guys are saying about clutch kits, and i do agree as i have an epi kit for big tires in mine, it will rev higher to get everything engaged and it will take some getting used to.... i will say i like it for some things but when you are trying to feather the atv over a rock crawl or something it can turn nasty at times.

but in the mud it works very well. and for wheelies.....

i am sending in my sheave to anything fast tomorrow to try and run both the clutch kit and machine work, i hope to see some good results...

skj283 glad to hear you like the difference in the mod, but do not give all the credit to the clutch mod for being able to wheelie to that, the exhaust pipe makes a huge difference, stock machines are so restricted by the pipes they put on them,i bet if you jet it and put a k and n in ( if you have not allready done that ) you will see even better results....

ya i dont know which did the most. i should have done one at a time but i got antsie and while i was waiting on the sheave bought the pipe. i bumped the jet up to a 135 and the plug looks pretty rich so there is deffinately more in it. i'm thinkin about droping the needle one notch to lean it out through the mid range but stay safe on top.
