06 Raptor idea's
#1
I got an 06 Raptor 700 with filter, TPI, full FMF. It runs great and I love it. Looking to add a little more while maintaining it's trailability/reliability. Mostly riden in the dunes. I'm thinking a HotCams stage 1 for now, and maybe a high comp piston and some porting later on when the motor shows some wear. Am I on the right track here or is there another direction I should be looking? Any idea's?

I would go ahead and do the headwork, that's where most of your power will come from anyway. Get a cam and do the portwork, that way all you have to remove is the head. Then when it's time for a rebuild, you can get a higher compression piston.
I would recommend a bigger cam than the stage 1. Also don't get some backyard dude to do the porting.

i think u should do the cam and piston together myself. the reason i feel this is the cam will give u less bottom end which imo is no good for trails but with a piston (like 11:1 so u can still run on pump) u will make the bottom end that the cam will take. and make sure u go with a BIG name ported that is the difference in making ok power to making a ton of it. if u want recomendtions pm me i dont like to say one builder is better than another where everyone can see. also u should think about boring your throttle body and getting a new ingetions system

I had a Dyna FS ignition on the bike and was pleased with the throttle response, however it developed some starting problems so I took it off and the bike seems fine now. Ever heard of that happening? Tell me more about the throttle body boring.

If I was gona put in a cam I would do the porting then and probably the high compression stock size piston. That way you still have room later on to go .020 over</end quote></div>

O.K., so, if I went to a stage 1 cam, which advertises mid to top end, a standard bore high comp piston and a quality port job, what kind of gas would I have to use to make it run good?

91oct gas. but i strongly suggest not getting a stage 1. imo it is a waste of $. get atleast a stg 2 i would even get a stg 3. with a 11:1 piston. i highly recomend getting a racer edge custom cp or a kds racing 11:1 diamond head piston.with this combo u will lose NO bottom end and will gain a ton of power up top. and then to get the most out of that get the dynatek ingention system and u will have very good power.
