Ok, I know this isnt a Dirtbike Forum but i just had to know something. I know a kid with a 1990 or 1991 Yamaha 4 stroke Dirtbike. The bike has a red frame and a white plastic gas tank, It has a white headlight, red seat, 2 headpipes and 2 carbs. It has disc brakes on the front and drum on the back. Now, this kid says his bike is a YZ400. Everyone I talked to said the YZ400 was never made until 96 or 97. I thought the bike might be a XT350. If anyone can help me find out with this bike really is, I will be very appreciative. If you decide to post a reply and happen to know anything about the XT350, Let me know about that too

Thanks for the help,
Mike

I know for a fact that the YZ400F and WR400F di not come out until the 98 model year, and they are only blue. They only have one carb and one intake tract. From the sounds of it that bike might be an XT650. i know the XT350 only has one carb.

He might have a TT350....not sure when they discontinued making them. Or, it may be an XT350 with all the street equipment removed. The XT350 does have a Taikei(sp) dual throat carb....owned one for about a year. By the way, both the TT350 (dirt only) and the XT350 (dual sport) are air cooled. All YZ and WR 400's and 426's are liquid cooled.

Yamaha didn't make a four stroke YZ till 1998.
I own one and I must say it is the best race bike I have ever owned. Yamaha made YZ 400's back in the late seventies/early eighties, but they where 2 strokes. Must be some dual sport.Hope that poor kid is just dreamin and didn't get taken.

A friend of mine has a 2000 yz 426. It is even more impressive than my 400. Coming off of a cr125 the 426 will seem heavy but you'll get use to it.Another friend of mine has a 98 400 just like mine. He came off a 97 yz 125, and he says that was the best choice he has ever made.
Also I've raced mine for about 3 years and did a
top end last summer and it looked great.Don't
get rid of your raptor though they look great sittin next to each other.

Ahhh the memories, the first motorcyle I was on a 1980? yellow YZ400, I faintly remember my brother(the crazy one) letting me control the gas while he control the handlebars, then switching. I scared the shi* out of him because ,to me, there was no 1/4, 1/2 throttle it was OFF or ON, NO gas or FULL Throttle. I think it was set up for racing, I remember them talking about how they had to change the rings in it every two weeks. That was a long time ago. I bet I was no more than 8 ON A 400YZ 2STROKE!!!
