my friends raptor is making this growling noise like the starter is engaged but i took the starter cover off and it doesnt look like the gear on the starter is moving back and forth.is it supposed too? or is it the roller bearings on the crank. they also make a growling noise like that too. most of the time it goes away when you hit the gas,but sometimes it doesnt. i dont know because you cant make it run with the cover off

 

i changed the one way and timing chain and the noise went a way on mine

 

he finally got the flywheel off and the bearing on the gear to the crank was wasted. and the other bearing for the gear on the outside of it was toasted too. i dont know how he did it but it was really bad. he had metal all around his stator and flywheel. but amazingly none of that got messed up!
