Yamaha Bear Tracker 230.. Any good?

I was looking at beartracker, the guy says its a 250 but the info on it says the engine is 230cc. Is it a 250 or a 230, its an '01 if that helps. Is this a good atv, any fun?

i believe those models are basically the little brother of the big bear model. if that is the case, it will turn out to be one hell of a reliable machine. and as far as i know, no quad manufacturer ever uses the correct engine size in model name. the new IRS Big Bear 400 atv is listed as that............a 400. in all actuality, the engine is 386cc. what sounds better? the big bear 386 or the big bear 400?

I know that but they make and ad\vertise both a 400 and 380... Is it a fun atv at all? The guy says it has surface rust but I could fix that easily, is that true?

yea there some really tuff bikes im sure there fun bikes for trails and such, i wouldnt worry to much about rust you can remove it but youd better repaint it after removing it or it will just come back, wd-40 and sand paper can get some off, yea hardly any1 lists actual engine displacement, i know ducati does, husqvarna gets it pretty close, and other older dirtbike companies did but yea they mostly round it up to sound better, a few machines are actually what it says. the 660 raptor is a true 660, the 700 is just a 686 the 250ex is a 229 and the 300ex is a 279 or something

i have a 99 big bear 350 4x4 and i love it. plenty of pull to get me where i go. i have been on it with almost bald front tires, full cooler and my gf on the back with me. the only drawback to riding her with me is it single suspension and the rear feels a little unstable with her on there but it is manageable if your careful. what pisses me off is in 2000, the big bear went with independent rear suspension.
at any rate, if it is a good deal, jump on it. you can always use it as a starter atv and then you can go from there with your next purchase.
edit: if you want pulling power without that much top speed, then get a 4x4 model. quads like the banshee and raptor are made to go fast. very fast. 70+ mph on some of them.

I have a 250 Timberwolf which was the prievious version of that bike and I LOVE IT. These bikes are like little billy goats, it will go anywhere as long as its not too deep and climb anything in its path, everytime I ride it, it impresses me and its small enough to go places where big bikes cant and you can pull it out by yourself if you get stuck. I recently bought a Kodiak 400 4x4 and with the acception of 4wheel drive I prefer the 250 its waaaay more fun and does wheelies like crazy which the Kodiak doesnt. I will never get rid of it, the Kodiak on the other hand will be for sale soon.

Some people call it a 250 some a 230 but it uses the 229.6cc motor that Yamaha has been using since the mid 80s on the 250 Moto4s and is still uses to this day on the 09 250 Grizzly. There pretty well bullet proof.

My first machine was a beartracker, its a 230cc. they are fun for what they are. good on trails. not fast or anything but quick enough to be fun to ride. very reliable.

I have an 04 Beartracker and love it, despite the fact that I'm battling an oil leak near the valve cover that I can't fix!
Very light, very nimble and maneuverable machine. Good acceleration, top end is about 40 mph. I don't like the location of the reverse shifter on mine, (down next to the engine), but otherwise, I'm very happy with it. It doesn't have the power that the bigger ATV's have, but for what I need it for, I don't need much. It still rarely ever gets stuck.
