Default YFZ450 vs Raptor700

Both Stock.

1- Which one is Faster? (Acceleration + Top Speed)

2- Which one has less engine problems?

3- Which one has low cost engine/parts repair?

4- Which one has big room for modding?

more questions later...

thank you.

the raptor 700 i think is slightly faster in a drag IMO. the yfz450 has more of a two stroke powerband, the raptor doesnt rev as high or quick but has alot of torque. as for less engine probs its hard to say because the raptor has a bigger engine...but its not as much of an aggresive racing built engine as the yfz, i actually think the raptor would last longer, the yfz as high as they rev and are made for pure racing i dont thing they would outlast a raptor. costs is hard to say... the raptor is only a single cam but its fuel injected and has a 686cc piston, someone else maybe can fill you in on that one, big room for modding...id say there near even because the fastest atv on the planet right now is a raptor 700 at 202 mph i believe BUT alot of people use yfz450 sand draggers that are wicked, so id say it would be a tie in its own way. just my opinions...

I believe the 450 is supposed to accelerate slightly faster, but all of the 450's I have raced was a very close race. As for top speed, they are about the same at 75 mph.

I would say the 700 has less engine maintenance and less engine problems because the 450 engine revs very high by design, therefore needing to be rebuilt more often. I have seen a lot of '06-up 450's that have had to be rebuilt, but have not seen any '06-up 700's that needed rebuilding.

There is no such thing as a low cost repair on an ATV. The 450 would probably cost more to rebuild the engine because it has the Nikasil cylinder.

Both machines have a lot of room for modding. The aftermarket supports both very well, but you can probably find more dragracing or motocross specialty parts for the 450.

Thanks 91Warrior357 and Raptor450 for the replies!

Can you guys please tell me how much approximately it might cost to repair on both ATVs?

I want you guys to know that I'm not a hardcore ATV rider I use ATVs for like cursing around at a beach I stay in and do some donuts, but not jumping hills or something like that always , sometimes drag race with other guys on streets.

And use around 4 - 7 hours a day

thing is I love the feeling of the power of those big ATVs when accelerating
I rode one Honda 450CC or 400CC not sure, and really loved the power of it!

almost 7 years now I have always been renting a 250CC ATV there at the beach, so the time has come for a powerful ATV

but of course I want the right one for me

All ATV's are expensive to fix to no matter which one you buy but if want a play quad the Raptor is the only way to go with EFI ther is no rejetting and the powerband is good in all situations not just in the high end like a YFZ. The YFZ is a great quad but is designed with racing in mind therfore leisurly trail riding is not built into its DNA and yes the Raptor will require allot less maintence that the YFZ does!

My Raptor is far and away the best quad I have ever owned. Good luck with your choice!

this is what i have seen from my friends racing their bikes and me trying them

1- acceleration the YFZ but after the 3rd gear the raptor is faster
so take off the yfz will take it but the rapter has more top speed
when the raptor hits mid 3 or 4gear it will take the yfz
2- i would have to say the rapter because its doesn't rev as high and the yfz is made for racing so for a 450 to keep up whit a 700 the motor has to be going alot faster so more maint./problems
but also u can get 2 bike the same never have problems whit 1 and the other will always be broken
3- should be almost the same but the yfz might be a bit more
4- i'd have to say the yfz because its ben around longuer but their is alot for the rapter

Both the yfz and the raptor are awesome machines. There are LOTS of after market parts for both. Maintenance wise I would think that the yfz would have to be rebuilt more than the raptor. Like they said above the yfz will rev higherwhich mean more wear and tear on the engine. I have a 07 and shes never failed me and is really comfortable to drive. Im 6' and 195 lbs. Shes plenty of bike for me. What ever you choose I think that you will make the good choice. Yfz = Track,Raptor = woods. I hope that this helps.

I think you would be happier with the Raptor 700. The Raptor has reverse, more torque to help pull you through the sand, and is geared better for your needs. The 450 is geared more for motocross/TT racing, where the 700 is geared more for trail/all-around riding.

Where the heck do you live where you can ride on the beach and race on the roads? I'm ready to move there!

I finally made my decision after reading your posts and also asking the dealer on Yamaha and he told me the same things like you guys said...

I'm going to get the Raptor 700 SE 2009 in next week!

I want to thank you guys for the great informations I got from you

and about the beach you asked Raptor450, its called Durrat Al Arus (Saudi Arabia)

here's some pictures from google earth:

If you can see in the 2nd pic, there's a long straight on the far right, we always drag race there with cars and ATVs

2- Which one has less engine problems?
the raptor is built more for reliablity

3- Which one has low cost engine/parts repair?
about the same

4- Which one has big room for modding?
about the same imo. the raptor is taking over though imo. there are some big things coming out for the raptor soon. cams being the biggest of the things thats are going to greatly help the raptor.
